Outfit #73: Pigeons and Thread

I don't tend to wear graphic t-shits too often, but I HAD to get this bit of amazingness from my friends at Pigeons and Thread. These ladies do amazing sewing work in small runs for small local companies, and they are also working on a spring 2014 collection, which I can't wait to see. I am sure it's going to be a perfect combination of craft and creativity.

Outfit #72

I bought this dress in London in September and I have just been waiting for the right day to wear it! It's wool so I definitely needed some decent chill in the air before pulling it out of the closet. I love everything about this dress. I love wool, i have definitely discovered an appreciation for green in the last year or so, i love it's unique shape, and I LOVE that i actually found a "tailored" dress that fits me properly. I am pretty sure I am going to wear this dress until i have worn it out...(i'd better, actually, it was a bit of a splurge purchase!)

Outfit #71: 50 Shades

I kind of like the fancy skirt + casual t-shirt look, it's pretty easy to wear. Sometimes i take for granted the fact that I can wear whatever i want to work, but it's pretty awesome. It's also nice to work somewhere where "jeans day" is not a thing. I never knew what to wear on jeans day.

The annoying thing about my work is that it's freezing, so i always end up throwing a cardigan over everything. I LOVE cardigans, but I only have so many of them, and sometimes i feel like they disguise the wide variety of my outfits.

Outfit #70: 13 Going on 31

I know that this dress is not particularly age-appropriate. I don't even have the defence of saying that this is a dress i've had for years and years, I bought it when i was in London two months ago. It was just so pretty that I couldn't resist.

Dress: Camden Market
Ribbon (worn as belt): John Lewis

Outfit #69 Party Girl

This is the outfit a wore to a lovely cocktail party hosted by some of my friends on Friday. I can't remember if I have posted this dress before...I bought it for $3 at Courage My Love in Kensington Market a few years ago and I love the print on it. It was a chilly night so I layered up with a belted Cardigan, and of course i couldn't resist wearing my studded shoes. Which, incidentally, go with pretty much everything.

Outfit #68 - Back to School

My personal style is definitely more about expression my individuality than following fashion and trends. I do love fashion though, and every once in a while a trend comes along that I can't resist buying into. Kilts this season was one of those, upon discovering that kilts are "in" for A/W 2013 I made it a mission to find a nice kilt on my London trip. I am quite happy with this one from Next. It's a bit shorter than is usual for me which is a fun change, the grey, black and red tartan works with things i already own, and i like the zipper details. Style success!

Outfit #67: Autumn Colours

I think sometimes it's okay to take your fashion references pretty literally. I bought this shirt at Goodwill during the summer, but definitely had to save it to wear in the the cooler weather. It makes a pretty fantastic Autumn outfit.

Shirt: Goodwill
Skirt: Value Village
Shoes: Winners

Cardigan: Joe Fresh

Outfit #66 - How do you wear a denim shirt?

I bought a denim shirt at Uniqlo when i was in London and i LOVE it. It fits well, it's comfortable, and i do like the aesthetic of it. But it's proving to be a bit difficult to work into my wardrobe. I think that it may be partly to do with the dark wash, since I wear a fair bit of navy and black and maybe it clashes a little bit. I may also need to get over my obsession with tucking everything in. I think the outfit below worked okay, but I could use a few suggestions.

Outfit #65 - Lace is More

I'm not gonna lie, i stole the lovely pun in this post's title from one of my friend's Pinterest boards.

I love this lace zip-up, i really like how it love interesting and edgy rather than delicate and pretty which is how lace usually looks, and also how i tend to dress a lot of the time. It's fun to try something different!

Also really loving bright red lipstick at the moment!

Zip-Up: Dorothy Perkins
Pleated Skirt: American Apparel

Outfit #64: All Grown Up

Hello! I know it's been aaaaaaaages...truth be told I just ran out of summer outfits to post. But it's finally Autumn, and I got back from London a couple of weeks ago where I did some shopping, so I will have some new outfits to share over the next little while.

I am trying to dress a bit more like an adult for work, also including wearing some makeup to work most days, and this outfit was an attempt at that. I don't know if I look more like an adult but I think it's a nice outfit.
Dress: Uniqlo
Tights: M&S
Boots: Dr. Martens
Belt: Value Village

Outfit #63 - Black is the new Black

So apparently I was quite influenced by the cooler temperatures this morning and went for this rather sombre outfit. I only realised when I looked at the photos that the overall effect was a little bit goth...but not OTT high school goth so i'm okay with it.

Wearing all black is so simple...it's hard not to just go with that from time to time.

Outfit #62 - End Of Summer Celebration

It's been a whole month since i've posted an outfit! August was a busy and fun month, but I suppose it hasn't been terribly exciting for me in terms of fashion; lots of skirt-and-t-shirt combinations for the hot weather! There will be more exciting things to come. Autumn fashion is always my favourite, and I am off to London in 10 days which will mean both dressing my best and hopefully some new acquisitions.

Last night one of my friends had an "End Of Summer Celebration" and I decided that it was occasion enough to dress up a little bit, and this was the outfit i came up with. I love this little romper, it's super flattering, and I was feeling bold enough to wear it without tights!

Romper: Topshop
Belt: Dorothy Perkins
Necklace: Ardene

Aren't these shoes adorable? I got them in Barcelona a few years ago.

Outfit #61: Introduction to Draping

Nothing like lots of stretchy, draped, comfy jersey for a Friday outfit! Hooray for the long weekend!

Outfit #60: Country Girl

So this outfit may have been better in theory that it was in practice. I really like this shirt, but it does tend to look rather boxy when I put it on. I am not sure about the skirt...it was kind of an awkward length, so I shortened it and added the lace, and I think maybe this wasn't an improvement...or maybe the skirt just wan't worth it to begin with. Or maybe i just need to find the right top for it...

You may notice that i am wearing shorts under my skirt. I have decided not to worry too much about people getting the occasional glimpse of my cycling shorts...it's better than people seeing my bum as i bike to work! I should invest in some pretty lacy ones but those tend to be rather expensive.

Shirt: Club Monaco
Skirt: Value Village
Belt: Value Village

Outfit #59: Not-So-Casual Fridays

I have to say I really enjoy working somewhere where I can where want I want everyday. Sometimes this results in my being a bit more dressed up than most people at work...just because I like to dress up.

Does anyone know where to buy good leggings that don't bag at the knees? American Apparel are the WORST for that.

Blouse: Bungalow
Skirt: Club Monaco
Tights: American Apparel

Outfit #58: Slouchy Saturday

Sometimes it's nice to have a lazy weekend day, where you don't have any plans and just do whatever you feel like. Or nothing if you feel like it! I did go out to the farmer's market this morning, and I chose an outfit that i thought looked nice enough for my excursion while still being something I could lounge around in for the afternoon if I so desired.

This floral blouse is nice and oversized, and I was quite happy to wear it over a long camisole and  some "activewear" leggings. It also made me feel pretty.

Top: Goodwill
Camisole: Costco (thanks mum!)
Leggings: Winners
Sandals: Birkenstock

Outfit #57 Hot

Amelia: What's wrong with you?
Martirio: The heat makes me feel ill.
Amelia: And it's no more than that?
Martirio: I was wishing it were November. The rainy days, the frost - anything except this unending summertime.

It's dreadfully hot in Toronto, I really hate this kind of weather. I keep checking the forecast to see when it's supposed to cool down...but it looks like we still have a couple more days to go. I didn't ride my bike today due to the extreme heat (was that lazy? I felt guilty about it all day... but really it's awful out) so I decided it was a good day for a maxi skirt. I've got a pattern-and-print mix going on here, with the stripes and the florals, and it's working pretty well. Not a bad outfit for my least favourite weather!

Belt: Value Village
Skirt: Goodwill
Shoes: Sperry Topsider

Outfit #56 Collar and Cuffs

So this is NOT the outfit I wore today, It is way too hot out for a long-sleeved shirt! I wore this to work a couple of Fridays ago. I like this shirt a lot, especially the French Cuffs! It does require a plain rather than a printed skirt though...and it seems that most of my skirts these days are printed. It's nice to wear something a little different!

Shirt: Antonio Valente
Skirt: Club Monaco
Belt: Topshop
