Outfit #46: Summer Brights

This is the outfit that i wore ALL DAY yesterday. I went to work, and went out to dinner, with a scarf and cardigan on all day. I do love scarves and I love the way the green skirt stands out with the black cardigan and tights...

...however it was not quite what i had planned for the day. I wore a nice, bright colourful top and no one got to see it! Very disappointing.

Outfit #45: Patio Days

It shouldn't be unreasonable to plan a gathering on a patio at the end of May...but my friends and I were quite happy to be on a patio with heaters! I did take advantage of the not-quite-summery weather to try out a dress I bought earlier in the spring; a bit of that black and white trend that seems popular this summer, but in a print that suits me better than a bold geometric one would.

Throwback Thursday

This outfit is pretty awesome. Especially because this photo was taken outside a convenience store in the suburbs of London, ON.

Outfit #44: Thirtyish

There are certain items that i own that make me feel like i am quickly racing into eccentric middle-aged lady territory, and this skirt is definitely one of them.

Outfit# 43: Jungle of Print

I think this top would vaguely be described as "animal print"although i think that actually there are at least four different animals involved as well as some other abstract stuff that looks kind of like the wall-painting effects that were really popular in the 90s. Objectively this top is really ugly, but I am kind of in love with it. I also think that's it's working better in this look than it was with that grey denim skirt I wore it with last time.

P.S. I am actually on the phone with my sister in photo #2, not just pretending that somebody called me.

Outfit #42: Remix

Happy Victoria Day!

I am trying to decide what to wear today, and then I remembered that I never posted this outfit that I wore on Friday. I have posted both this skirt and cardigan before in other outfits, and I am quite happy with the way they look together. Skirts, knit tops and cardigans are the things I find the easiest to wear. I am bit sad that it will be too warm for cardigans soon...I like the sunshine but I am happiest when it's somewhere between 18-23 degrees. I've been enjoying our long spring this year.

Outfit #41: Black and Blue

I seem to be resorting to colour cliches a lot when coming up with titles for my blog posts. This is probably why i'm sitting blogging from my living room and not working for Vogue.

I am undecided about pencil skirts. Actually, I am not really undecided about pencil skirts, i don't particularly like wearing them. They are almost as uncomfortable as trousers, and have similar fit issues due to them needing to fit both waist and hips. I find them fussy, as I am always pulling them down or trying to get them to sit right or whatever. They do work better with certain kinds of tops; I love this jumper but I find it difficult to wear so the pencil skirt was a good solution. And a pencil-skirt silhouette does have a certain grown-up sophistication that cannot be achieved with any other style of skirt. Sometimes I do wonder whether it's worth it bothering with them.

Outfit #40 Going Green

I have only started wearing green in the last year or so, and suddenly it's one of my favourite colours to wear...even the winter coat i got this past winter was in "military green".  And forest green has the advantage of looking nice with either black or navy, which means it was actually fairly easy to incorporate into my wardrobe once I got started with it. Now I sometimes wonder why it took me so long.

I swear that this top is actually not as transparent in the real world as it is in the photos. Although it doesn't matter particularly because i wore a cardigan at work all day plus a pashmina (is that a thing?) around my shoulders all day because it was freezing. So you, dear readers, are the ones that get to appreciate the full impact of my lovely outfit. (I do think it's a lovely outfit, this is one of my favourite skirts. Although I have probably said that about half a dozen skirts so far.)

Outfit #39 Pretty in Pink

This was my outfit for a house party I went to last night. I actually wore heels! I love heels from an aesthetic perspective but I rarely wear them because my feet just can't take them. They do make me feel extra dressed-up though...it's an extra bit of effort.

I feel like this jersey dress is the kind of thing fat girls aren't supposed to wear...it's pretty clingy and in a pretty loud colour. But I have never felt self-conscious wearing this dress. It's super comfortable and the colour makes me happy. It also provides lots of scope for fun accessories...I get a compliment on this leaf necklace every time I wear it. You'd never guess where I bought it...

Outfit #38: Market Days

This was my outfit on Thursday, I haven't had a chance to post it before now!

My friend Janice was kind enough to take a couple of photos of me while we were wandering around Kensington market. It was a lovely evening! And this jersey dress is great for in-between weather. I like the neckline, long sleeves, and print!

Outfit #37: Pure and Simple

Sometimes it's good to remind myself that an outfit doesn't always need to obviously stand out to look good. There isn't too much going on here; black and grey, skirt and top, but i think it looks quite nice in all it's simplicity. Also it doesn't hurt that I am wearing grown-up tights instead of leggings, and that my legs look quite sleek in them. Sadly I managed to put a hole in them before the end of the workday. Which is why usually wear leggings.

Yes, my jumper has holes in it too...

Outfit #36: So hip it hurts

I love love LOVE this colour combination of purple and teal. The whole shape of this outfit is very unusual for me...particularly the boxy blouse. I am not 100% sure about this outfit, but this may be more because it's different for me than because it's actually "wrong".

I really am quite enthusiastic about the blouse, I got it at Monarch Vintage near Ossignton and Bloor a couple of weekends ago. The colour is amazing and the design of it is very unique...it's hard to tell in the photo but it has two ties on one side. I might try leaving the top one open next time I wear it. It may also be a top that looks better with trousers...hmm.

Outfit #35: Cherry Blossom Girl

As usual, Toronto decided to skip spring and head straight for summer. I am already dreading the days of sweaty heat that will soon be upon us...most of my wardrobe is much better suited to the cooler months. I shouldn't complain though, it was truly a gorgeous day and some friends and I took advantage of the weather to head out to High Park and see the cherry blossoms in bloom. It was a lovely day.

Outfit #34: Blue

I think this was a pretty cute outfit. The cardigan is one of my favourites; i actually own it in two colours! I worked in a cashmere shop when I lived in London, and it began what i imagine will be a lifelong addiction to cashmere cardigans. I am surprised at how well they've all worn...i don't think you can tell that i've won this regularly for the last four years...i'm also pretty good at darning.

Outfit #33: Queen of Hearts

Sometimes you need a pretty dress to put an extra spring in your step...and sometimes it's spring and you just need to wear a pretty dress, even if no one is going to see you wear it other than your completely oblivious workmates! (My workmates are lovely, but i don't think they notice my clothes. One of the many reasons why it's nice to share my outfits on this blog!)

My cousin gave me this dress. I am not quite sure why she gave it up...i'm quite happy with it.
